The romantic, picturesque and dramatic appeal of medieval Christianity furnished Richard Wagner, after 'Tannhäuser', with 'Lohengrin'. It's a romantic opera in three acts first performed in 1850 in Weimar under the baton of Liszt, a keen champion of the most vital new music of his day. The aria 'In fernem Land' is sung by Lohengrin at the very end of the opera. It became one of the most famous Wagner aria's ever and is also known as the 'Gralserzählung'.
