Difficile pour un organiste de résister à cet arrangement raccourci du « traité » pour orchestre symphonique à vent de Richard Strauss. Robert Gowner a traduit ses riches harmonies et ses rythmes provocants pour orgue seul. Il propose plusieurs lectures de cette pièce, qui peut être aussi bien jouée sur un grand instrument que sur un petit : des indications pour les registres optionnels d'un orgue à deux claviers servent à refléter la structure antiphonique, jouée par les deux groupes de vents dans l'uvre de Strauss.
