Richard Hofmann wurde am 30.4.1844 in Delitzsch geboren. Er war Schüler von R. Dreyschock und Ferd. Spohr für Violine und von Jadassohn für Komposition. Ab 1866 war er Musiklehrer in Leipzig und ab 1904 Instrumentallehrer am Konservatorium. Er starb am 13.11.1918 in Leipzig.
