In Greek mythology, Typhon the monstrous father of all creatures once battled the mighty god Zeus in one of the most epic confrontations in mythological history. This story forms the inspiration for Epos, a title derived from the Greek word for epic.

This work unfolds as a seven-minute, trailer-style concert piece, structured in ten continuous sections, each depicting a stage of this legendary battle. While the overall difficulty level is medium to advanced, the instrumentation has been carefully designed to remain accessible for mid-sized wind bands. Cinematic impact is achieved with just four percussionists and a limited setup of two timpani.

The piece opens with a Lento Misterioso, portraying Typhon's arrival at Mount Olympus. The first battle emerges in an energetic theme alternating between 12/8 and 2/4, evolving from tension into a powerful confrontation. Typhon briefly defeats Zeus, tearing his sinews and imprisoning him.

Hermes and Aegipan recover Zeus's strength, depicted in a Lento Espressivo with a melancholic fluteclarinet duet. The final Energetic Allegro leads to the ultimate battle, where Zeus triumphs and imprisons Typhon beneath Mount Etna.

Dans la mythologie grecque, Typhon père monstrueux de toutes les créatures affronta le puissant dieu Zeus dans l'un des combats les plus épiques de l'histoire mythologique. Cette histoire est à l'origine du titre Epos, dérivé du mot grec signifiant « épique ».

L'uvre se présente comme une pièce de concert de sept minutes, dans un style cinématographique, composée de dix sections enchaînées. Le niveau est intermédiaire à avancé, tout en restant accessible aux orchestres à vent de taille moyenne. L'effet cinématographique est obtenu avec quatre percussionnistes et deux timbales.

La pièce débute par un Lento Misterioso, décrivant l'arrivée de Typhon sur l'Olympe. Le premier combat se développe dans un thème énergique alternant 12/8 et 2/4. Typhon parvient à vaincre Zeus temporairement et à l'emprisonner.

Hermès et Aégipan restaurent ensuite sa puissance, illustrée par un Lento Espressivo avec un duo mélancolique flûte-clarinette. Dans le Energetic Allegro final, Zeus triomphe et enferme Typhon sous l'Etna.

In de Griekse mythologie vocht Typhon de vader van alle monsters tegen de machtige god Zeus in een van de meest epische confrontaties uit de mythologische geschiedenis. Dit verhaal vormt de inspiratie voor Epos, afgeleid van het Griekse woord voor episch.

Het werk ontvouwt zich als een zeven minuten durend concertstuk in trailerstijl, opgebouwd uit tien doorlopende secties. De moeilijkheidsgraad is gemiddeld tot gevorderd, met een bezetting die toegankelijk blijft voor middelgrote harmonieorkesten. Een filmisch effect wordt bereikt met slechts vier slagwerkers en twee pauken.

Het stuk begint met een Lento Misterioso, waarin Typhons aankomst op de Olympus wordt verbeeld. De eerste strijd ontwikkelt zich in een energiek thema in 12/8 en 2/4. Typhon weet Zeus tijdelijk te verslaan en hem gevangen te zetten.

Hermes en Aegipan herstellen Zeus' kracht. Dit wordt weergegeven in een Lento Espressivo met een melancholisch duet tussen fluit en klarinet. In het slotdeel, een Energetic Allegro, keert Zeus terug en verslaat hij Typhon, die onder de Etna wordt opgesloten.
