Theatre Music Philip Sparke

1. Overture; 2. Entr'Acte; 3. Finale

1. Overture:
This Movement needs to be playes with panache, taking care that a constant, driving tempo is maintained. It opens with a flurry of semi-quavers wich lead to the main theme at "A". The perky second subject at "D" should have character with accents and articulation carefully observes. This should contrast with the more legato style at "G".
2. Entr'acte
A tempo should be chosen here that allows the soloists to flow and phrase well. The repeated quavers in the accompaniment should not be too short. Dynamics should be well-controlled so that the climaxes have the maximum effect.
3. Finale
As with the first movement, a good, brisk tempo should be maintained throughout the Finale. Sections at "E" and particularly at "F" must be no slower than at the opening. Take care that the band is well-balanced throughout the section from "G" to "K" and that a good legato style is maintained. The movement ends with a brief reprise of the Overture.
