Fenix (Pequeña leyenda)

Fenix (Pequeña leyenda) Pere Sanz Alcover

Compulsory piece for the 4rd Division in the 37 Wind Band Contest "Comunidad Valenciana" 2015. Commissioned by the Societat Renaixement Musical de Vinalesa (Valencia) for the 60th Anniversary of the SRM Vinalesa, dedicated to all the members of this musical society's Youth Band.

According to legend, the phoenix is a mythological bird the size of an eagle, with red, orange and incandescent yellow plumage, a strong beak and talons. It was a fantasy bird that was consumed by fire every 500 years, only to rise from the ashes in all its splendour. According to some myths, it lived in a region that included the Middle East and India, its domain extending as far as Egypt.

In all cultures, the phoenix has been a symbol of rebirth (renaissance) and (musical) immortality.
