Lincolnshire Posy wurde 1937 für Blasorchester komponiert und in der Town Hall in New York uraufgeführt. Während der Zeit zwischen 1905 und 1906 sammelte Percy Grainger in der Grafschaft Lincolnshire Volkslieder, die er in diesem Werk verarbeitete. Er zog hier von Stadt zu Stadt, auf der Suche nach Menschen, die mit dem traditionellen Volksliedgut vertraut waren. Die sechs Sätze portraitieren die Sänger und Sängerinnen, die diese Melodie darbrachten. Man findet somit ein musikalisches Portrait vor, dass sehr deutlich die Gesangsgewohnheiten und Persönlichkeiten dieser Volkssänger aufzeigt.
