Greek Serenade Pavel Stanek
Pavel Stanek was born in 1927 in Prague. He studied at the conservatory there until 1950 and served as the choral director of a folklore ensemble from 1950 to 1954. During his military service, he took over the leadership of the Central Wind Orchestra of the Ministry of the Interior. From 1961 to 1963, Pavel Stanek was the conductor at the operetta theater "Na Fidlovacce" in Prague, and from 1963 to 1990, he served as conductor of the Radio Orchestra in Ostrava. During this time, and beyond, he also appeared as a guest conductor with many orchestras. As a composer, he left a lasting mark on wind music with his distinctive and original compositions. He often drew inspiration from the folk music of his homeland as well as other countries. During a vacation in Greece, he encountered Greek folk music, which clearly made a strong impression on him. The result was an entertaining and appealing work for wind orchestra that blends these folkloric elements with his own musical voice fittingly titled Greek Serenade.
