España cañí (Picturesque Spain), also known as España gitana, is a well-known piece of Spanish music. The Paso Doble was written in 1923 by Pascual Marquina Narro (1873-1948). The first recording took place in 1926 with the chapel of the Regiment Ingenieros de Madrid. In 1927 the piece was recorded by the Regal Chapel and the Regimiento de Badajoz N.º 73. In 1928 the Encarnación López Júlvez (1895-1945), known as La Argentinita, followed with a version with castanets and stamping. Rondalla Usandizaga recorded it with Victor Recordings in 1929. In 1931, the House of Odeón published a version written by Alfredo Corral Moraleda and sung by Marcos Redondo, accompanied by the chapel of Odeón and the conductor Antonio Capdevila.
