Between 1921 and 1938 Nino Rota composed twenty-one pieces for voice and piano, five of which he approved for printing. These early works made him known in the music world. The lyrics are of different origin: poems by the Indian Nobel Prize winner Tagore, a sonnet by Petrarch as well as a Tuscan folksong which was at the same time his last vocal chamber music work. Three of the songs contained in this new edition are printed in different keys, as can already be found in Rota's manuscripts.

Entre 1921 et 1938, Nino Rota compose 21 pièces pour chant et piano, et autorise l´impression de 5 d´entre elles. Ces premières uvres le rendront célèbre dans le monde musical. Les paroles sont d'origines diverses : des poèmes de Tagore, lauréat indien du prix Nobel de littérature 1913, un sonnet de Pétrarque ainsi qu'une chanson populaire toscane qui est aussi sa dernière uvre vocale de musique de chambre. Trois chansons de cette nouvelle édition sont imprimées dans différentes tonalités, comme on peut déjà les trouver dans les manuscrits de Rota.
