Nikolai Kapustin is considered a pioneer of the Soviet jazz scene. His music combines typical idioms of jazz with classical forms. The Trio op. 86 for flute, violoncello and piano from 1998 is one of the most popular chamber music works by Kapustin. He recorded it himself together with Alexander Zagorinsky and Alexander Korneev.

Nikolai Kapustin est considéré comme un pionnier de la scène jazz soviétique. Sa musique lie des idiomes typiques du jazz à des formes classiques. Le Trio op. 86 pour flûte, violoncelle et piano, composé en 1998, est l'une des pièces de musique de chambre les pus célèbres de Kapustin. Il l'a lui-même enregistrée avec Alexander Zagorinsky et Alexander Korneev. Il existe d'autres interprétations, comme celles de l'Emanuel Ensemble et du Trio Panta Rhei.
