Cette uvre plaisante pour violoncelle et piano parodie avec beaucoup d'humour des styles contrastants : des idiomes du jazz cohabitent abruptement avec un lyrisme romantique. Le violoncelle commence seul le thème puis change vers du pizzicato tandis que le piano reprend le thème. Le morceau se développe dans un dialogue espiègle entre les deux instruments.Nikolai Kapustin a composé Burlesque en 1999 avec deux autres uvres pour violoncelle : Elegy (ED 22848) et Nearly Waltz (ED 22852).
