The Frenchman Michel de Montéclair with his open and unprejudiced mind solved the baroque dispute on the question of Italian versus French style by using them both in his compositions depending on the character of the piece or movement. A rather pleasing example for this technique is his 4th Concerto for the flute traversière which we are now presenting in a transcription for alto recorder and B.c. as part of our series "Baroque music for recorder". This edition is based on the first print published in Paris in 1724. Additions made by the editor have been carefully marked.

Le Français Michel de Montéclair, un esprit libre et marqué par une absence de préjugés, sut habilement éviter le débat concernant les styles italien et français en composant, selon le caractère de la pièce, dans le deux styles. Un exemple attrayant est son Quatrième concert pour flûte traversière que nous présentons ici dans le cadre de la série "Musique baroque pour flûte à bec" dans une transcription pour flûte à bec alto et basse continue. Notre édition suit la première impression parue à Paris en 1724. Les ajouts de l'éditrice sont indiqués soigneusement.
