De song is door vele artiesten gecovered en is onder meer bekend door de prominente saxofoonsolo. Het werd een gigantisch succes aan beide kanten van zowel de Atlantische als de Stille Oceaan. Het werd een nummer-1-hit in bijna 25 landen en er werden wereldwijd maar liefst 6 miljoen exemplaren van verkocht. Hans van der Heide wist deze evergreen om te toveren tot een prachtig nummer voor fanfare.
