The title of this overture betrays its high-spirited character; it keeps the listener in suspence up to the last strains. The quick and virtuoso introduction Allegro Vivace is followed by a quite melodious Con Moto e Cantabile (written for two parts and in sixths). A Molto Maestoso interludium is followed by two parts Allegro con Fuoco and Moderat, and then the works reaches its only pause with a slowly movement lasting for sixteen bars. The initial tempo Allegro Vivace returns so that the overture can end with the same high-spirited character.

Le titre de l'oeuvre Upside Down (qui peut être traduit par Sens Dessus Dessous), laisse deviner qu'il s'agit d'une ouverture pleine de tempérament, qui tient l'auditeur en haleine jusqu'á la dernière mesure. L'introduction rapide et virtuose Allegro Vivace est suivie d'un mouvement mélodieux Con Moto e Cantabile qui se compose d'une agréable chanson (à deux voix et écrite en sextes). Un mouvement Molto Maestoso nous mène à travers deux intermèdes Allegro con Fuoco et Moderato vers le seul moment de repos dans cette oeuvre, un mouvement initulé Slowly qui ne dure que seize mesures. Le tempo initial Allegro Vivace revient et ainsi l'ouverture se termine de al même facon animée par laquelle elle débuta.

Na de snelle, virtuoze inleiding Allegro Vivace volgt een melodieus Con Moto e Cantabile met een goed in het gehoor liggende melodie (tweestemmig en louter in sexten). Na een Molto Maestoso volgen twee deeltjes Allegro con Fuoco en Moderato, waarna het enige rustpunt in dit werk, Slowly, dat 16 maten in beslag neemt, volgt. In de vorm van een herhaling komt het Tempo Primo nog eens aan bod en zo eindigt de ouverture even temperamentvol als zij begonnen was.
