Das Hauptthema dieser Variationen besteht aus den vier ersten Noten des berühmten Glockenspiels das jede Stunde von dem berühmten Turm des Londoner Parlaments ertönt.

Nach einer nebligen Introduktion gibt es in der ersten Variation die Vorstellung der Wächter bei dem Palast von Buckingam.

In der zweiten Variation begegnen wir eine schöne Dame aus Irland und in der dritten Variation gibt es eine musikalische Darstellung der legendärischen Teddy-Boys mit ihren Lederjacken und glänzenden Motorrädern.

Nach der vierten Variation mit den Dudelsackspielern, schließt der Komponist mit einem Totalbild der majestätischen englischen Hauptstadt ab.

The main theme of these variations is composed of the first four notes played each hour by the carillon of the world famous bell tower of the London Parliament. After a foggy introduction the first variation presents us the Guards on duty in front of Buckingam Palace, whereas the second variation portraits a nice Irish lady visiting London town. In the third variation we meet the legendary Teddy-Boys with their leather outfits and impressive motorbikes. After the description of the bagpipers in the fourth variation, the composer concludes with an overall picture of the majestic British capital.

Le thème principal de ces variations est composé des quatre premières notes du célèbre carillon qui résonne toutes les heures de la célèbre tour du Parlement de Londres. L'introduction qui évoque un paysage brumeux est suivie de la première variation qui présente les gardes devant le Palais de Buckingam, tandis que la deuxième variation dépeint une belle Irlandaise de passage à Londres. La troisième variation est con-sacrée aux fameux Teddy-Boys avec leurs vêtements en cuir et leur grosses motos. Après la description des joueurs de cornemuse dans la quatrième variation, le compositeur termine par une évocation globale de la majestueuse capitale anglaise.

Het hoofdthema van deze variaties is samengesteld uit de vier eerste tonen van het beroemde klokkenspel dat om het uur uit de bekende Londense parlementstoren galmt. Na de mistige introductie volgt de voorstelling van de Guards voor Buckingam Palace in de eerste variatie, terwijl de tweede een voorbijglijdende mooie Ierse dame beschrijft. In de derde variatie komen de opvallende Teddy-Boys met lederen pakken en glimmende motorfietsen aan bod. Na de doedelzakspelers uit de vierde variatie wordt het globale stadsbeeld nog even in al zijn pracht samengevat.
