The Irish Blessing - Wind Band Joyce Eilers-Bacak / Arr. Stephen Bradnum
The Irish Blessing is a celtic gem the words of the traditional benediction aptly portrayed in music which is both affirming and uplifting.
The Irish Blessing is presented here for wind band in what I regard as its ideal' scoring. This has been tried and tested in performance, found to be successful, and should be aimed for if possible. Small
size notes may be omitted if the required tone quality and intonation cannot be achieved. The solo oboe part in particular may pose problems, and this part is provided transposed for Bb Soprano Saxophone (or, of course, Clarinet) if preferred. The ? ute parts given in small notes in bars 1620 may be omitted
at the conductor's discretion, but they should not be played an octave higher. The opening quartet may be adapted within reason to suit individual needs (a brass quartet perhaps?). Some suggested cues
are provided, but the main aim should be to establish a balanced ensemble from which the full band sound can emerge.
The Irish Blessing
May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm up on your face,
The rains fall soft upon your ?elds.
And until we meet again,
And until we meet again.
May the God that loves us all
Hold you in the palm of his hand.
Amen, Amen, Amen.
