In 1890 'The High School Cadets', a popular drill team attached to the very first high school in Washington D.C., asked John Philip Sousa to write a march for the group. They requested a better' march than the one Sousa had written for their rivals 'The National Fencibles'. Indeed, The High School Cadets became one of the most popular of Sousa's 136 marches. Pi Scheffer wrote this fine arrangement with Dixieland combo, which was made extremely popular by the recording made by the famous Dutch Swing College Band.

Le groupe 'The High School Cadets était un peloton de drill et de parade, établi au sein de l'unique collège (high school) de l'époque à Washington D.C. En 1890, ce groupe demande à Sousa d'écrire une marche, meilleure que celle qu'il avait écrite pour une formation concurrente 'The National Fencibles'. Cette marche devint une des plus connues parmi les 136 marches composées par Sousa. Pi Scheffer est l'auteur de ce pétillant arrangement avec orchestre de dixieland, rendu populaire par les enregistrements du célèbre Dutch Swing College Band.

Zij vroegen om en betere mars dan deze die hij voor hun concurrenten 'The National Fencibles' geschreven had. Het werd één van de beroemdste van Sousa's 136 marsen.
