Guten Abend, gut´ Nacht is one of the most well-known melodies in the world, still sung by parents to their children at bedtime to this day. Johannes Brahms (18331897) composed the lullaby in 1868 to celebrate the birthday of the son of his friend Bertha Faber.
The text of the first verse originates from Des Knaben Wunderhorn, a collection of traditional folk song lyrics published in 1808. The second verse was written by Georg Scherer in 1849.
This arrangement for solo soprano saxophone and solo trumpet can optionally be performed with solo E? alto saxophone and solo trumpet.
