Among the some 1500 compositions by Johann Strauss Sr. and his three sons there are some 70 marches, 45 of them written by Johann Strauss Jr. He composed military marches, marches for students and even a revolutionary march. Besides several exotic sounding concert marches, such as the Russian March, the Egyptian March, the Serbian March and the Spanish March Johann Strauss Son also wrote a Persian March: 'Persischer Marsch' opus 289. Originally the march was called 'Persischer Armeemarsch' (Persian Army March) and was written for the Shah of Persia, Nasir Ed-Dir in 1856. The composer made a first revision for a concert in the Vienna 'Volksgarten' (Popular Garden) in 1864 and a second for a concert in Pavlovsk, Russia in 1869. It is a march with an oriental sound in which the composer tried to recreate some exotic sonorities; he did not use any real Persian theme, but only tried to suggest the Persian atmosphere in his own style.

Parmi les quelque 1500 oeuvres composées par Johann Strauss Père et ses trois fils figurent environ soixante-dix marches, dont 45 écrites par Johann Strauss Fils. Il a composé des marches militaires, mais également des marches pour les étudiants et même une marche révolutionnaire. Certaines marches sont plutôt exotiques, telles la Marches Russe, La Marche Egyptienne, la Marche Serbe, la Marche Espagnole et cette 'Marche Persane' opus 289. A l'origine, cette marche était intitulée 'Persischer Armeemarsch' (Marche de l'Armée Perse' et elle a été composée en 1856 pour le Shah de Perse Nasir Ed-Dir. Strauss en fit une première réadaptation pour un concert au 'Volksgarten' (Jardin Publique) de Vienne en 1864 et une deuxième pour un concert à Pavlovsk en Russie en 1869. C'est une marche à caractère oriental habilement ornée de coloris exotiques par le compositeur qui connaissait très bien les goûts de l'époque. Il n'utilisa aucun thème perse, mais tenta de suggérer une atmosphère persane dans son propre style.

Hij schreef militaire marsen, maar ook studentenmarsen en zelfs een revolutionaire mars. Naast diverse exotische concertmarsen zoals de Russische, de Egyptische, de Servische en Spaanse mars schreef Johann ook nog een Persicher Marsch op.289. Deze mars heette oorspronkelijk Persischer Armeemarsch en werd in 1856 geschreven voor de Sjah van Perzië Nasir Ed-Dir. Hij herwerkte ze eerst voor een concert in de Weense Volksgarten in 1864 en maakte nog enkele wijzigingen voor een concert in het Russische Pawlowsk in 1869. Het is een Oosters klinkende mars, waarmee Johann Strauss voor alles exotische kolorieten beoogde; hij gebruikte helemaal geen Perzische thema's, maar probeerde de Perzische atmosfeer in de hem eigen stijl te suggereren.
