This chart is straight out of the Basie shuffle/swing tradition. Influenced by Quincy Jones's early big band arrangements, this chart requires a laid-back swing feel and features a strong saxophone section in both the melody statement and an extended soli. Interesting dynamics and a cool style shift makes this one an attention grabber. Impressive!
