Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) moved from Italy to Paris and started as a kitchen boy. Alongside he also composed music and was a dancer and actor. He soon became leader of the court orchestra, and wrote music for the parties at the court. At a concert in 1687 he hit his foot with his conductor pole, got gangrene in the wound and died three months later.
Lully is the first known composer of French baroque operas and had great influence on the development of the European music towards the end of the 1600s.

Turkish march is used in the 1991 movie "All the mornings of the world" (Tous les matins du monde) starring Gérard Depardieu. The action takes place in France in seventeenth century where we follow the relationship between the viol player Marin Marais and his mentor Sainte Colombe.


[NO]Jean-Baptiste Lully (1632-1687) kom fra Italia til Paris og startet som kjøkkengutt. Ved siden av komponerte han også musikk og var både danser og skuespiller. Han ble ganske raskt hoffkapellmester og skrev balletter og maskespill til fester ved hoffet. Under en konsert i 1687 traff han foten med taktstaven, fikk koldbrann i såret og døde tre måneder senere. Lully er den første kjente komponisten av franske operaer i barokken og fikk stor innflytelse på utviklingen av den europeiske musikken mot slutten av 1600-tallet.

Tyrkisk Marsj er brukt i filmen Alle årets dager (Tous les matins du monde) fra 1991 med blant annet Gérard Depardieu i en av hovedrollene. Handlingen foregår i Frankrike på sekstenhundretallet hvor vi følger forholdet mellom gambespilleren Marin Marais og hans læremester Sainte Colombe.
