Jakob Friedrich Kleinknecht (1722-1794) was vice kapellmeister and musical director at the court of the Margrave of Brandenburg-Culmbach in Bayreuth and later in Ansbach. His compositions show him to be a representative of the sensitive style who did not deny Berlin influences in his Bayreuth setting. Still he proves to be capable of musical fantasy, inventiveness and autonomy which are nothing short of that of the famous C.Ph.E. Bach. Our edition is based on the only source, the first print published approx. in 1774.

Jakob Friedrich Kleinknecht (1722 - 1794) fut second maître de chapelle et Directeur de la Musique à la cour du margrave de Brandebourg-Culmbach à Bayreuth et, plus tard, à Ansbach. Ses compositions nous révèlent un représentant du style sentimental qui ne renie pas les influences berlinoises fort compréhensibles à Bayreuth, mais qui met aussi en uvre une fantaisie musicale, une originalité et un talent inventif qui ne font pas craindre la comparaison avec le célèbre Carl Ph. E. Bach. Notre édition utilise la seule source disponible, une impression datant approximativement de 1774.
