The opera 'Dido and Aeneas' by Henry Purcell (1659-1695) was written for a school performance at a girls boarding school. This piece is not very requiring. The aria 'Remember Me' is composed on a chromatic descending continuous bass, one of Purcell's favorite composition methods. It is a very emotional aria in which Dido says farewell to life.

L'opéra 'Dido and Aeneas' de Henry Purcell (1659-1695) a été écrit pour une représen-tation scolaire d'un pensionnat de jeunes filles. L'oeuvre ne comprend pas de grandes difficultés. L'air 'Remember me' (Souviens-toi de moi) est composé sur une basse obstinée chromatique descendante, une des techniques de composition favorites de Purcell. Il s'agit d'un air très émotif chanté par Dido qui dit adieu à la vie.

De aria 'Remember me' is gecomponeerd op een chromatische dalende basso continuo, een favoriete schrijfwijze van Purcell. Het is een zeer emotionele aria waarin Dido afscheid neemt van het leven.
