This composition is based on the very popular French folksong 'Au Clair de la Lune mon ami Pierrot' which used to be part of every family's homely song repertoire in France and even abroad. Henk van Lijnschooten wrote seven nice four-part variations, initially intended for youth band. The work, composed in 1973, was commissioned by SOMNO, the then Dutch Confederation of wind band associations. Ever since, it has been performed with great success all over the world.

(Variations sur un chant populaire français).Cette composition est basée sur la chanson très connue 'Au Clair de la Lune mon ami Pierrot' qui fait partie du répertoire qu'on chantait d'antan dans toutes les familles françaises. Sur cet air, Henk van Lijnschooten a écrit sept variations originales à quatre voix, destinées en premier lieu aux orchestres juniors. L'uvre a été composée en 1973 sur commande de la SOMNO (confédération néerlandaise de l'époque); depuis elle est interprêtée avec grand succès dans le monde entier.

Deze compositie is gebaseerd op het zeer populaire Franse liedje 'Au Clair de la Lune mon ami Pierrot' dat deel uitmaakt van het repertoire dat vroeger in elk gezin gezongen werd. Henk van Lijnschooten schreef hierop zeven leuke vierstemmige variaties, in de eerste plaats voor jeugdorkesten bedoeld. Het werk werd in 1973 gecomponeerd in opdracht van de toenmalige SOMNO en is sindsdien onafgebroken met veel succes over de hele wereld gespeeld geworden.
