HENK VAN LIJNSCHOOTEN (Den Haag 1928) does not need any introduction. He is one of the pioneers of modern wind band music in The Netherlands and has a worldwide reputation as conductor, teacher and composer. From 1957 to 1964 he was director of the famous Marine Band of the Royal Dutch Marine. It was for the 1960 Delft Tattoo that he made this arrangement of the well-known British sailor's song Hornpipe, named after the typical celtic wooden wind instrument (originally made of cow horns in Wales). The Dutch dance 'horlepiep' refers to the same song and dance.

HENK VAN LIJNSCHOOTEN (La Haye 1928) est l'un des fondateurs de la musique actuelle pour orchestre à vents aux Pays-Bas et il s'est taillé une réputation internationale comme pédagogue, comme chef d'orchestre à vents et comme compositeur. De 1957 à 1964 il est directeur de la Musique de la Marine Royale Néerlandaise. C'est à cette époque qu'il écrit pour le Taptoe de Delft en 1960 cet arrangement du chant marin britannique Hornpipe, qui accompagne la danse 'matelote' du même nom, appelée d'après un instrument à vent celtique en bois, fabriqué à l'origine avec une corne de boeuf au Pays de Galles. Cette danse matelote est également connue aux Pays-Bas sous le nom de 'horlepijp'.

HENK VAN LIJNSCHOOTEN (Den Haag 1928) hoeft natuurlijk niet voorgesteld. Hij is één van de grondleggers van de moderne blaasmuziek in Nederland en maakte wereldwijd naam als pedagoog. Van 1957 tot 1964 was hij directeur van de beroemde Marinierskapel van de Koninklijke Nederlandse Marine. Het was in die periode (o.m. voor de Taptoe Delft in 1960) dat hij een arrangement maakte van het bekende traditionele Britse zeemansliedje Hornpipe, genaamd naar het typische keltische houten blaasinstrument (aanvankelijk in Wales uit runderhoorns vervaardigd). De horlepijp of 'horlepiep' was ook in Nederland als zeemansdans gekend.
