Partch composed and produced the music for the film Windsong by Madeline Tourtelot in 1958. In this film, the ancient legend of Daphne and Apollo was transferred to the dunes of Lake Michigan as a reference to the sexual ethics of the Puritans in the USA. Later, the film music was turned into the ballet music Daphne of the Dunes. Contrasting tonalities and frequent changes of mood correspond to the fast cuts in the film. The music equally recalls images of nature including sand, water, snakes, and seagulls.

Harry Partch a composé et produit la musique du film Windsong de Madeline Tourtelot en 1958. Dans ce film, le mythe antique de Daphné et Apollon est transposé dans les dunes du lac Michigan en réaction à la morale sexuelle puritaine des États-Unis d'Amérique. Plus tard, la musique du film a été transformée en musique de ballet pour Daphne of the Dunes. Dans la partition figurent des tonalités opposés et des changements de ton fréquents qui correspondent aux montages rapides dans le film.
