The Wild Hare is a frame story. It broadly outlines the causes and course of the Second World War, within which lies the personal story of the crew of the American B-17 bomber The Wild Hare. During a mission over Germany, the aircraft is hit. Crippled, it crashes on the way back in the Netherlands. Only one crew member manages to evade capture by the enemy.

The Wild Hare est un récit-cadre. Il esquisse dans les grandes lignes les causes et le déroulement de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, tout en racontant l'histoire personnelle de l'équipage du bombardier américain B-17 The Wild Hare. Lors d'une mission au-dessus de l'Allemagne, l'appareil est touché. Endommagé, il s'écrase sur le chemin du retour aux Pays-Bas. Un seul membre de l'équipage parvient à échapper à l'ennemi.

The Wild Hare is een raamvertelling. Het schetst in grote lijnen de aanleiding en het verloop van de Tweede Wereldoorlog, met daarbinnen het persoonlijke verhaal van de bemanning van de Amerikaanse B17 bommenwerper The Wild Hare. Tijdens een missie boven Duitsland wordt het toestel geraakt. Kreupel gemaakt, stort het op de terugweg neer in Nederland. Slechts één bemanningslid weet uit handen te blijven van de vijand.
