With Les Pêcheurs des Perles Bizet first made his mark in 1863. Set in ancient Ceylon, this tale of friendship, love and betrayal has been performed more and more often in opera houses around the world. Nadir's aria 'Je crois entendre encore', is sung towards the end of act 1: Nadir is alone and before he sleeps he recalls how he had broken his vows to Zurga and pursued his love for the veiled woman.
