Trying to find Haydn pieces for the flute will be pretty much disappointing. He wrote only 6 pieces for the flute. The piece presented here is based on the piano sonata in A flat major, Hoboken XVI, no. 43, which was presumably completed in 1783 and is also available in a version for piano, violin and violoncello. The piece was transposed to C major to make the best use of the flute's compass.

L'ouvrage de Haydn ne contient aucune littérature soliste et peu de musique de chambre pour flûte ce qui a donné lieu à cet arrangement basé sur la Sonate pour piano en la bémol majeur Hob. XVI no. 43. Elle a été transposée en ut majeur pour mieux pouvoir utiliser la tessiture de la flûte et offre aux élèves de flûte la possibilité d'approcher le classicisme viennois et la forme de la sonate.
