The present Concerto for trumpet and orchestra was written in 1796 and dedicated to A. Weidinger, a trumpet player of the Court Opera Orchestra in Vienna. Weidinger improved the trumpet by applying the keys to it, covering side holes, and thus making possible the playing of chromatic notes between the natural notes. Haydn employs chromatic passages extensively in his Concerto.

Le présent concerto pour trompette et orchestre a été écrit en 1796 et dédié à A. Weidinger, un trompettiste de l'opéra d'État de Vienne. Weidinger a amélioré la trompette en y appliquant des clés, en couvrant les trous sur les côtés, et rendant donc possible le jeu des notes chromatiques entre les notes naturelles. Haydn emploie de nombreux passages chromatiques dans son concerto.
