Franz Anton Rössler-Rosetti was born in Mimo?, a town in Moravia, in 1746. He was employed in the orchestra of the Duke of Oettingen-Wallerstein, initially as a double bass player and later as director of music. In 1781 he went to Paris, where he heard symphonies by Haydn and operas by Gluck and Piccinni. He was director of music at the court of the Duke of Mecklenburg-Schwerin in Ludwigslust from 1789 until his death in 1792. This concerto in G major is one of fourteen flute concertos he composed. The score was prepared with reference to original orchestral parts kept at the King István (St Stephen) Museum in Székesfehérvár and solo parts published by André in Offenbach in 1796.
