Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847) composed six sonatas for organ. This collection of sonatas have been very important for the development of the repertoire for solo organ from the year they were published in 1845 until the great organ works written by Max Reger around 1900.
The rich possibilities of registrations for the organ has many commonalities with the sound of a concert band consisting of of woodwind- and brass instruments.

When I heard the Sonata no. 1 for the first time during a recording session Bergen, I decided to make an instrumentation for concert band of this great work.

[NO]Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy (1809-1847) skrev seks orgelsonater som har hatt stor betydning for orgelrepertoarets utvikling fra de ble utgitt i 1845 og frem til Max Regers monumentale orgelverk skrevet rundt 1900.
Orgelets rike muligheter for registrering har fellestrekk med den klangen man kan få ved å blande tre- og messinginstrument til et concert band.

Da jeg hørte sonate nr. 1 for første gang i forbindelse med en plateproduksjon jeg gjorde med
organisten Karstein Askeland i Domkirken i Bergen, bestemte jeg meg for å instrumentere den.
