Black Earth was inspired by Kara Toprak, a popular song in Turkey. The composer of the song, A??k Veysel, was the last great Turkish balladeer. Faz?l Say imitates the sound of the saz, a Turkish lute, through his selection of a muted effect in the Introduction and Epilogue. In contrast, folklore, Romantic piano style and jazz are entwined in the central sections to form a large-scale outburst. Now also available in an arrangement for two pianos.

Black Earth est une uvre inspirée de la chanson Kara Toprak très populaire en Turquie. A??k Veysel, le compositeur de cette chanson, fut le dernier grand chanteur de ballades turc. Grâce à l'effet de sourdine choisi dans l'introduction et l'épilogue, Faz?l Say imite le son du saz, un luth turc. Par contre, dans les parties centrales de la pièce, le folklore, l'écriture pianistique romantique et le jazz se compriment en un éclat extatique. Maintenant aussi disponible dans un arrangement pour deux pianos.
