Organ transcription of Anthony Payne's 2006 orchestral completion from Elgar's sketches. Robert Gower comments, Working from the orchestral score confirms Payne's musical intuition in taking fragments and developing them into an entirely convincing whole, one imbued with Elgarian spirit and characterised through the economical precision of his own art. Here, intellectual and artistic integrity combine to construct overall architecture in which not a note is wasted, painstaking care is evident in the subtle details of instrumental colouring, and where there is thrilling rhythmic forward propulsion. In saluting the skills of both composers, I have sought to open out for organists the excitement and sincerity of their work, being designed for performance not only on larger organs with a full range of orchestral colour, but also made entirely feasible for performance on smaller two-manual instruments.

Une transposition pour orgue de la Marche d'Edward Elgar pour orchestre, dont la version complète a été composée par Anthony Payne en 2006. L'arrangeur Robert Gowner commente : « Lors du travail sur cette partition pour orchestre, Payne a fait confiance à ses intuitions musicales, grâce auxquelles il a transformé ces fragments en un ensemble convaincant, imprégné de l'esprit d'Elgar et caractérisé par sa précision parcimonieuse. L'intégrité intellectuelle et artistique se mêlent pour créer une architecture dans laquelle aucune note ne disparaît, et où le soin méticuleux apporté aux détails subtils des sonorités apparaît de façon évidente dans le rythme pénétrant qui fait avancer la pièce. Impressionné par l'habileté des deux compositeurs, j'ai cherché un moyen de mettre en valeur la beauté et la probité de leur uvre pour les organistes. Il ne fallait pas seulement donner la possibilité de reproduire les sonorités d'un orchestre sur un grand orgue, mais aussi permettre de jouer la pièce sur deux claviers uniquement. »
