Of Holbergs Age op. 40 - Suite

Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg (1843-1907) wrote the Suite presented here in 1884, on the occasion of the 200th birthday of the Danish writer Ludwig Holberg. Originally composed for the piano, Grieg arranged the piece for string orchestra one year later. And it was this version that made the Suite very popular, while the piano version plays hardly any role in the concert scene.

Le compositeur norvégien Edvard Grieg écrivit la présente Suite en 1884 à l'occasion du 200ème anniversaire de la naissance de l'écrivain danois Ludwig Holberg. Composée originellement pour le piano, elle fut adaptée par Grieg pour un orchestre à cordes. La présente édition reproduit la suite complète. Etant donné qu'elle peut être exécutée facilement et dû à sa popularité et sa légèreté, elle est idéale pour l'introduction au jeu d'ensemble au niveau moyen et comme pièce de concert.
