Richard Beale wrote Hymn to Sophia, Holy Wisdom, a set of seven poems that became songs in my Mass for solo voices, choruses, and wind ensemble. The poem The Hungry Heart was written by Beale in Tucson, AZ in April of 1996 as a response to the splendid Sonoran Desert, and to the premiere performances of the Mass. Look at the hungry heart!
