Der amerikanische Pianist und Komponist Cy Coleman (1929) ist vielleicht am besten bekannt wegen seiner Musicals wie Wildcat (1960), Sweet Charity (1966), Seesaw (1973) und natürlich Barnum (1978). Er komponierte auch Filmmusik und schrieb zahlreiche Songs unter denen das weltbekannte Marschlied Hey look me over. Big Spender illustriert die Begabung Colemans als Schöpfer von ganz schönen Melodien. Manche erkennen bestimmt auch diese Melodie von der Josef Hastreiter, wie üblich, ein sehr angenehmes Arrangement für Blasorchester machte.

The American pianist and composer Cy Coleman(1929) is certainly best known as the author of several musical comedies such as Wildcat (1960), Sweet Charity (1966), Seesaw (1973) and of course Barnum (1978). He also composed a lot of film music and several songs, such as Hey look me over. Big Spender illustrates Coleman's talent as creator of fine melodies. Many will recognize this one, very skilfully arranged for wind band by the German composer Josef Hastreiter.
