Weber wrote Andante e Rondo ungarese per l'Alto Viola Solo with Gran Orchestra for his brother Fritz in Ludwigsburg. At the end of his manuscript there is the remark: 'Completed the 18th of October 1809'. Later he 'completely recast' the piece for bassoon, as he wrote. Friedrich Wilhelm Jähns, a researcher of outstanding merit, discovered the score of the Viola Concerto with the Berlin Kapellmeister Semler, who had inherited it from his father, the famous violist Franz Xaver Semler. This first publication is based on Weber's autograph preserved at the Berlin State Library.

Weber a écrit l'Andante e Rondo ungarese per L'Alto Viola Solo con gran Orchestra pour son frère Fritz à Ludwigsbourg. À la fin de son manuscrit, on trouve la mention suivante : « Achevé le 18 Octobre 1809 ». Plus tard, il a refait complètement la pièce pour basson selon ses propres dires. Le célèbre chercheur Friedrich Wilhelm Jähns découvrit la partition du concerto pour alto chez le chef d'orchestre berlinois Semler, qui l'avait héritée de son père, le célèbre altiste Franz Xaver Semler. Cette première édition est fondée sur le manuscrit de Weber conservé dans la Bibliothèque d'état de Berlin.
