The Piano Concerto No. 2 is one of the most important compositions by Camille Saint-Saëns, who composed the work in only 17 days. It demands extreme virtuosity from the pianist. Saint-Saëns himself played only "faiblement" at the premiere in Paris, as he had probably not practised his complex three-movement work enough. However, the audience liked the Scherzo right away and the concerto's triumphant progress could not be slowed down by the only moderately successful premiere - especially after further performances in Leipzig and Paris. It became one of the most frequently performed piano concertos - even today, 150 years after its premiere. With over 1,200 titles from orchestral and choral literature, chamber music and music theatre, Edition Eulenburg is the largest score series in the world. It covers a large part of music history from the baroque to classical modernism and looks back on a long tradition.

Le concerto pour piano n°2 compte parmi les compositions les plus importantes de Camille Saint-Saëns, qui a composé l'uvre en seulement 17 jours. Il exige du pianiste une virtuosité extrême. Saint-Saëns lui-même n'a joué que "faiblement" lors de la première représentation à Paris, car il n'avait sans doute pas suffisamment pratiqué son uvre complexe en trois mouvements. Le scherzo plut cependant d'emblée au public et la première, qui ne connut qu'un succès mitigé, ne freina pas la marche triomphale du concerto, surtout après d'autres représentations à Leipzig et à Paris. Il est ainsi devenu l'un des concertos pour piano les plus joués - même aujourd'hui, 150 ans après sa création. Avec plus de 1 200 titres de littérature orchestrale et chorale, de musique de chambre et de théâtre musical, l'Edition Eulenburg est la plus grande série de partitions au monde.
