The Fantasia bucolica for viola and chamber orchestra Op. 13f (original title: Fantasy in D) was composed in 1956 in response to a commission from the Kleines Unterhaltungsorchester Südwestfunk Baden-Baden and was featured in a recording produced for SWF in Freiburg in the same year, performed by this orchestra and the soloist Hans Hasselmann and conducted by Willi Stech. The brief concert piece begins with a dreamy introduction by the solo viola which leads into a virtuoso central section before concluding with intimations of the initial section. A striking feature of this early work is the diverse employment of the percussion section in the orchestral instrumentation. Martin Hummel

La Fantasia bucolica pour alto et orchestre de chambre op. 13f , intitulée initialement Fantaisie en ré, a été créée en 1956 à la suite d'une commande du Petit orchestre de divertissement de la Radio du Sud-Ouest (Kleines Unterhaltungsorchester Südwestfunk) de Baden-Baden. Elle a également été produite la même année avec cet orchestre et le soliste Hans Hasselmann sous la direction de Willi Stech pour SWF de Fribourg. Cette courte pièce de concert débute par une introduction rêveuse de l'alto solo qui débouche sur une partie médiane aux traits virtuoses pour s'achever de nouveau avec les sons du début. On y remarque déjà l'utilisation variée de la percussion dans l'instrumentation de l'orchestre. Martin Hummel
