The "Te Deum"17 September 1934. Both the "Te Deum in C Major"Swindon. and "Festival Te Deum" use the English text from the Anglican Book of Common Prayer. Festive settings of the Te Deum have been composed for religious and secular celebrations, including military victories, coronations, consecrations of bishops, and papal elections. In keeping with this festal traditional, Britten's "Festival Te Deum" was composed for the centenary festival of St. Mark's, is a hymn of praise and thanksgiving common to Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and other Christian services. The hymn is part of Anglican Morning Prayer, and is recited daily by some Anglicans. English musical settings of the "Te Deum" became commonplace after the Reformation (Purcell set the text in 1694). Britten first set the Te Deum text in his "Te Deum in C Major", composed for treble solos, SATB, and organ 11 July -
Les « Te Deum » furent écrits autant pour des fêtes religieuses que séculaires comme les victoires militaires, les couronnements, les intronisations d'évêques ou l'élection d'un pape. Le « Festival Te Deum » de Britten reste dans cette tradition.
