It was the Argentinean composer Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) who was at the origin of the so-called symphonic tango in the forties. C'est sous l'impulsion du compositeur argentin Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) que le tango à caractère symphonique s'est développé dans les années quarante du siècle précédent. Het was mede dankzij de Argentijnse componist Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) dat er in de veertiger jaren tango's met een symfonisch karakter ontstonden. Zij maakten gebruik van grote orkesten die met de traditie van de 'orquesta tipica' braken. Adiós Nonino is daar een sprekend voorbeeld van.In Nederland hebben veel mensen dit stuk leren kennen toen het tijdens de huwelijksceremonie van Prins Willem-Alexander en Máxima op ontroerende wijze ten gehore werd gebracht. De solomelodie in dit prachtige arrangement door Peter Kleine Schaars kan door een bandoneon, sopraansaxofoon, altsaxofoon of klarinet gespeeld worden.
