The American composer Abe Holzman (New-York, 1874 East Orange, New Jersey, 1939) worked the greater part of his life as composer and arranger for several music publishing firms. His famous march 'Blaze away' (1901) was inspired by the words of an officer during a naval battle of the Spanish-American War. In 1898 Captain Gridley ordered to open fire against the Spanish fleet in the Bay of Manila with the words 'Well boys let's blaze away!'. This march became extremely popular in the 20th century, also in Europe. Willy Hautvast adapted it to the contemporary European wind band.

Sa célèbre marche « Blaze away » (1901) a été inspirée par les paroles d'un officier de marine au cours d'une bataille navale, lors de la Guerre hispano-américaine. En 1898, le Capitaine Gridley donna l'ordre de tirer sur la flotte espagnole dans la baie de Manille en criant : « Well boys, let's blaze away ! » (Allons les gars, feu à volonté). Cette marche est devenue très populaire au cours du vingtième siècle, même en Europe. Willy Hautvast l'a adaptée à l'orchestre à vent actuel.

Zijn mars 'Blaze Away' (1901) werd geïnspireerd door een uitspraak van een officier tijdens een zeegevecht gedurende de Spaans-Amerikaanse oorlog. In 1898 gaf Captain Gridley het bevel tot het beschieten van de Spaanse vloot in de baai van Manilla met de woorden 'Well boys let's blaze away!'.
