*South Bend, Indiana, 13. September 1901. Pyle studierte am Oberlin Conservatory, an der University of Washington und an der Eastman School of Music. Er leitete als Professor das Musiktheorie und musikwissenschaftliche Department des Drake University College of Fine Arts. Er verstarb 1983.
