David Mruzek Komponist

David Mruzek serves as assistant professor of music and director of instrumental music programs. The ensembles under his direction include the Concert Band, College-Community Orchestra and Jazz Band. He also coordinates several chamber ensembles and teaches music literature and instrumental lessons.Mruzek holds a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Toledo. Both of his advanced degrees are from Ohio State University, where Mruzek served as a teaching assistant in the music history department. For his doctoral dissertation on "The Warriors" of Percy Grainger, Mruzek earned the Grainger Medallion from the International Percy Grainger Society.Prior to joining Hanover in 2006, he taught at Dodge City Community College (Kan.), Colby Community College (Kan.) and Columbus State Community College (Ohio). The Northwest District of the Kansas Music Educators Association selected Mruzek as its Outstanding College Music Educator in 2004.For 11 years, he was a member of the 122nd Army Band of the Ohio Army National Guard, advancing to the rank of sergeant. Mruzek served as principal clarinetist and librarian for this ensemble. In 1994, he earned the Army Commendation Medal for distinguished service.Mruzek is also a composer of original works for concert band, with more than 20 works to his credit. His compositions have been performed by numerous ensembles, including the United States Military Academy Band, the Indiana Wind Symphony, the Angelo State University Symphonic Band and the Ohio State University Concert Band. Three of his works are published, including "Early One Morning March," "Boy Scout Centennial" and "Apollo Anniversary." In addition, the Kjos Company of San Diego, Calif., has published his text "Contemporary Rhythm Drills for Band and Orchestra."Actively involved in the Boy Scouts of America, in July 2005 and 2010, Mruzek served as the assistant band director for the National Boy Scout Jamboree held at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. He has written four band compositions to honor the Boys Scouts: "Boy Scout Centennial", "Order of the Arrow", "The Eagle Scouter" and "Camp Louis Ernst."
