Bernard Magny Komponist
Born in 1960 in Avignon , Bernard Magny studied at the Conservatoire National de Région in Lyon graduating in 1981 gaining first prize in flute. In 1984, he received an Advanced Diploma from the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris under the tuition of Professor Sophie Cherrier.
As a member of the flute quartet Sonance IV, he performed in numerous concerts with the Orchestre National de Lyon and the Orchestre de lOpéra. After being awarded first prize in orchestration at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional in Marseille, he decided to dedicate himself to both flute teaching and composing.
Defying classification, he has embraced all styles of contemporary music, and his free and adventurous approach to writing allows him to remain open to the richness of the sound world. He draws his inspiration from constantly renewed influences and arranges them into limitless transformations, building up his very own musical language.
References to past and contemporary techniques, world music, jazz, tango - all these figure among the many potential sources of inspiration which nourish his musical creativity.
His catalogue of works truly reflects his commitment to openness, richness and variety. His tendency is to favour rarely used instruments in his orchestral pieces, chamber music and pieces for soloists, not forgetting the numerous arrangements which often draw him into revisiting the great classical repertoire. Among these are:
Orchestra pieces: AZTECA triptych for wind ensemble... Chamber music : Trois pièces en coup de vent for a flute trio... Pieces for soloists : « Suite en lumière » for solo guitar...
He has undertaken various commissions such as « Cubana tentaçion » in 2008 for winds, and « La flûte désenchantée, a production commissioned by the Opera dAvignon in 2015.
?
He arranges his pieces in such a way that music students and amateur players can take part together in performances; in fact he has always succeeded in bringing together pedagogy and creativity while constantly aiming for quality and inventiveness.
?
He was a finalist at the Coups de vents International Composition Competition in 2015 with his piece Azteka-Les marches du soleil, and also at the Maurice Ravel International Composition Competition in Bergamo in Italy with his piece Baltik tango for accordions, flutes, piano and string ensemble.
