As can be seen from the dedication, this piece is the first violin concerto Mozart wrote in spring 1766 while staying at the French court for several weeks when he came to Paris for the second time with his father and sister after their return back from England. The work probably came into being because the astonishing abilities of the young artist were often called into question and he was therefore set a task which had to be completed in the presence of the commissioner. And this is how Mozart composed this violin concerto for Madame Adelaide of France, the eldest daughter of Louis XV.

Comme il est visible sur la dédicace, cette pièce est le premier concerto pour violon de Mozart, composé au début de l'année 1766 au cours d'un séjour de plusieurs semaines à la cour de France, alors que le jeune garçon revenait à Paris pour la deuxième fois, après un voyage en Angleterre avec son père et sa sur. L'uvre est sûrement née du fait que les capacités extraordinaires du jeune musicien étaient souvent remises en doute ; on lui donnait alors un exercice, qu'il devait exécuter sous les yeux de celui qui le lui avait donné. Mozart a donc composé ce concerto pour violon pour Madame Adélaïde de France, la fille aînée de Louis XV.
