For a long time, Wolf Glaser, pianist, music pedagogue and composer, had not been known in Germany. Born in Cologne in 1913, he studied with Philipp Jarnach and Paul Hindemith among others, but no sooner had he been given a permanent post as second coach in 1933 than he had to flee the country due to his Jewish descent. First, he went to France, then to Denmark and Sweden where he still lives today and where he became a popular composer, conductor, music pedagogue, music therapist and poet. His 1st piano sonata written in 1933 and published here for the first time was Glaser's self-described opus 1. It is permeated by an atmosphere of new departures and a sweeping form. Kolja Lessing, the piano player, who performed this work for the first time in Germany on February 2, 2001, writes: "When I first got to know this piece in the spring of 2000, I was at once fascinated both by its exceptional intensity and its stirring force - poised as it is between ecstatic eruption and magical melancholy....an astonishingly uncompromising first work of great originality, an invitation to explore the other works of Werner Wolf Glaser." Le pianiste, pédagogue et compositeur Werner Wolf Glaser est resté presque inconnu en Allemagne pendant longtemps. Il est né en 1913 à Cologne et étudia la composition avec Philipp Jarnach et Paul Hindemith. En 1933 il dut quitter son poste comme répétiteur et fuir devant les nazis à cause de ses origines juives. Il gagna la France, puis le Danemark et s'installa ensuite en Suède où il vit toujours. Il y est connu du public en tant que compositeur, chef d'orchestre, pédagogue et poète. La Première Sonate pour piano présentée ici pour la première fois fut la première uvre à laquelle le compositeur donna un numéro d'opus. Elle est caractérisée par une atmosphère de départ et une impression de coups donnés dans toutes les directions. L'uvre connut une renaissance tardive grâce au pianiste Kolja Lessing qui créa la composition pour la première fois en Allemagne le 2 février 2001. Il écrit: "Lorsque je fit connaissance de l'uvre en printemps de l'année 2000, je fus aussitôt fasciné par son étonnante intensité et par la puissance entraînante émanant de la tension entre l'éruption extatique et la magie mélancolique qui la parcourent... une première uvre étonnamment absente de compromis, d'une grande originalité, invitant à la découverte de l'uvre de Werner Wolf Glaser restant encore peu connue chez nous." Les Editions Robert Lienau ont également publié: "Chansons d'Hongrie, d'Angleterre et et et ..." adapté au piano à quatre mains par Werner Wolf Glaser (ZRL 40490) et "Ricordo IV et Canto" (ZRL 40860).
