The first comprehensive German-language catalogue of Tchaikovsky's works follows the 2006 Russian catalogue of works with regard to layout and count, taking into account its research results as well as those of the Tchaikovsky Handbook of 2002 and older documentations on the history of the works. As a concise compendium, the volume is aimed at both experts and music aficionados. The detailed list of musical works and the survey of composition plans not executed are followed by the musico-theoretical, feuilleton-style and other literary works by Tchaikovsky. The volume provides the most important facts on the works' genesis and transmission history, lists the main sources, instrumentations, first performances and first editions, names the dedicatees (whose biographical details are mentioned in a separate index) and provides quotes and information on returns of the composer to earlier works or on their reuse in later compositions. Such information is completed by biographical information on Russian, English and German secondary literature, particularly on the two publication series of the Tchaikovsky Society.Synopses and a detailed list of the complete editions as well as various indexes facilitate using the volume and accessing major editions. An appendix with performance dates from 1865 to the last concert conducted by Tchaikovsky himself on 16/28 October 1893 and major posthumous performances reflect the development of the international Tchaikovsky reception as well as the dissemination of individual compositions.
